AYSO PHILOSOPHY OF COACHING

In AYSO, Positive Coaching is a core philosophy. We believe that kids best develop as players when they receive positive encouragement and mentoring. Every AYSO coach is a volunteer. Come share the joy of soccer with your own child and the other members of the AYSO family of players and volunteers. We provide all the training you need. You provide the fun.

Takeaways for Coaches

  • The coach is the most important AYSO person for the kids. You have the most contact.
  • You make it or break it for the kids.
  • The kids will have lasting memories about how you treat them.
  • Control the sidelines. You are responsible for your own conduct, the conduct of assistant coaches, players and parents. Most of them take their cues from you. if you are yelling at the referees and players, they will feel that it is ok to do so. It's not. You need to set the example that all the others will follow.
  • Referees don't point out your coaching mistakes. Likewise, do not vocalize referee errors.

COACHING

To become an AYSO coach, you must be certified in the age level you are coaching. Certification a few easy steps.

1. Make sure you have a valid ayso289.org username and password.
    Login to the website and go to 'My Account'
    Go to 'Volunteer'
    Go to 'My Training'
    Go to 'Training Library'
    View courses for coaching and take the age appropriate course.
    Already certified, complete "CEU Annual Coach Update Online"

2- View courses for Safe Heaven required classes and take them.
    Safe Haven Update 2020
    Concussion Training
    Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training

3- Look for the in-person training class.
    Register for the class online.

4- Attend the class that you registered for.
    You will then be certified to coach for this age group.

Coaches are essential to the game. They teach children soccer skills and help develop a healthy, positive attitude, teamwork and good sportsmanship. Coaching is a rewarding experience because you have the opportunity to build a child's self-esteem, help them learn new skills and just have a lot of fun.

If you haven't done this already, contact your Region's Coach Administrator or Regional Commissioner if you are ready to become a coach.

Print your line up card from your team page (required for 10U and above). Have line up card ready for referee at least 15 minutes prior to game time.
    Login to ayso289.org website and go to 'My Account'
    --> 'Team and Fields'
    -->'Team Directory'
    --> 'Roster'
    --> 'Edit Roster'
    --> enter jersey numbers, click on 'Update'
    --> click on 'Print Team Line Up'

If any player is not listed on your team lineup, then the player must register and be assigned to your roster before they allowed to participate in any practices or games.
